Real Devotional 2

JAMES 1:2a | 2a My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind,

What kind of trials do we face? One category is health trials. Accidents, diseases, age, and habits can alter our physical capabilities. Activities we love become difficult or impossible. Our self-image does not match our bodily condition. Relationships are another area of trial. Life is about investing in people but that means dealing with loss, change, and other’s troubles. It also implies conflict and imperfect communication. There are trials that emerge whenever we fail at something or underachieve. Then we are tempted to stop trying or to feel bitter or to become disillusioned. Injustices tempt and test us too: will we become passive and indifferent, or give in to cynicism? Deprivations tempt us toward ingratitude and jealousy. There are inner trials connected to our own emotional landscapes that can tempt us toward depression or anger or withdrawal. Success brings trials connected with excessive pleasures, and self-indulgences.

Make a list of your current trials and temptations.

Pray through your list.
