Soul Songs February 15 Devotional

by David Joynt on February 15, 2024

RoMANS 8:28 | 28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

Letting go cannot be avoided. All of life includes letting go. At some point, almost everyone has to let go of their career, no matter how fulfilling. Most people have to give favorite activities or sports as they age. Parents must let their children go into independence. We must let go eventually of everyone we love or they must let go of us.

The big question is not whether we will let go or when, but how we will do it. Horatio Spafford must have hated the “when,” losing his daughters prematurely. But he believed this loss to be temporary. In a verse rarely sung, he penned these words:

“But Lord tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait

The sky not the grave is our goal,

O trump of the angel; O voice of the Lord

Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul.”

Are you able to let go when necessary?

Gracious God,

Help us to value people and relationships as sacred gifts. Help us let go and place people we love in Your faithful hands.

Amen.
