Soul Songs January 13 Devotional

by David Joynt on January 13, 2024

REVELATION 5:11-13 | 11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels surrounding the throne and the living creatures and the elders; they numbered myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 singing with full voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!’ 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, singing, ‘To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might for ever and ever!’

“Teach me some melodious sonnet,

Sung by flaming tongues above....”

“Here’s my heart, O take and seal it.

Seal it for Thy courts above.”

One other way to tune our hearts for worship and life is anticipatory. The Book of Revelation, with its startling visions of heaven, gives us a peak into the songs to come, the “melodious sonnets sung by flaming tongues.” When our hearts are in spiritual tune now, even if our notes sometimes aren’t, we join in the deeper, purer worship of heaven itself. Someday we’ll join that chorus and sing without any taint of pain or sorrow or confusion. That is our destiny.

Are you ever lost in wonder, love and praise?

Gracious God,

Make my destiny into my desire. Let me sing and pray now as a future citizen of Heaven.

Amen.
