Stress Test Devotional April 27

Luke 5:38
“New wine must be put into new wineskins.”
What was new about the great party Jesus initiated? It was more intimate than any previous celebrations, because through the incarnation and the gift of the Spirit, God was present in a new way with his people. Friendship with God, initiation into his family through his son, stretched existing conceptions of the spiritual life. So did the guest list. Those invited to the party included sinners, the irreligious, foreigners, and the diseased and broken.
PRAYER
Gracious God, Sometimes we feel tired and bored. The great truths of the faith that seem flat and uninspiring. We don’t experience spontaneous joy. The spiritual life becomes a solemn obligation and not an exciting adventure. Forgive and renew us. Open our hearts to a fresh filling of your spirit. Help us to embrace the thrilling task of your mission in this world. Amen.
