The Upside Down World, Week 10, Day 3

by David Joynt on November 14, 2017

 LUKE 18:11 | LUKE 15:1-7

It would seem the Pharisee has a strong case for his own moral and spiritual superiority to his list of notorious sinners.

But there are a number of flaws in his reasoning. The law does condemn adultery, theft, and unethical gain. These public actions and the actors who perform them are objectively and clearly wrong to do so. But as a leader of Israel, a shepherd of the sheep, where is the Pharisee’s concern for these erring and struggling people? When we use others’ distress and failure to reinforce our own sanctity, then our hearts are out of step with God in a fundamental way.

Does comparison ever replace concern in your thinking?

If you were a shepherd, who is in your flock?

FAMILY TIME— Read Luke 15:1-7. Do you know any sheep that need finding? Pray for them.
