The Week That Changed The World Devotional March 15

by David Joynt on March 15, 2024

MARK 14:27 | 27 And Jesus said to them, You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

Judas can easily be made into a scapegoat, blamed for the event of the cross. He certainly bears responsibility for acting as a spy and for furthering the conspiracy against his friend and Lord. But Judas was not alone!

All of Jesus’ disciples failed their master. They ran from danger, denied the association, and hid from the authorities. When He most needed their support, they chose self-preservation. Judas may have listened to Jesus’ cross-talk and decided since His death was coming, “why not profit from it?” The others may have said, “since He has decided to die, and we can’t save Him, why die with Him?” It can be hard to believe the persecuted are blessed.

Have you ever been an opportunist?

Have you ever abandoned a sinking ship?

Gracious God,

Help us live by principal and loyalty and not by self-interest. When persecution comes, may I be faithful!

Amen.
