RECOMMENDED AGE: 5th grade

by Tina Gilbreath on July 27, 2022

Fifth graders participate in a series on the meaning of communion while parents learn about giving their child a blessing.

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace."
Number 6:24-26

Tips for celebrating and marking this transition in a special way:
  • Step 1: Make a plan that suits you and your child. You may wish to host a simple dinner, or plan a road-trip adventure.
  • Step 2: Invite people who have had an impact on your teens life to join the celebration (e.g. Godparents, Sunday School teachers, relatives, close friends)
  • Step 3: Write out a blessing to share with your child. Make sure it includes active commitment to support them, attachment of high value, and a vision for their future and is presented with spoken word and loving touch. See resources section for more suggestions for the blessing.
  • Step 4: Enjoy the special times together and share the blessing in a special format (e.g. written on special stationary, framed, on a bookmark, etc.)
