Advent is coming!

by Tina Gilbreath on November 15, 2021

Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks way. All the news and stores are telling us it's time to start thinking about Christmas. Whether you heed their advice or not, Thanksgiving decorations will be put away soon, Christmas lists will be made, Christmas decorations put up and we will be speeding toward the end of 2021!
Each year I get smarter as I approach the holidays.  I have a greater understanding of how quickly they will change. Children will grow up and may celebrate elsewhere or bring others home with them.  Older relatives may not be around for many more years, or their health will decline to where they can't participate in the same way as before.  So each year in spite of, or maybe because of the chaos and the urgency promoted around us, I look for new ways to celebrate, to make it more simple and more focused on Christ, and ways to let go of perfection and embrace the chaos. How are you planning to keep Christ in Christmas these year? You may want to check out the list of ideas below or mark your calendars for Advent.ure our annual kick off to Advent.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

BE...LIEVE!

Christmas is about the birth of Christ and celebrating all that entails, but rather than resting in that truth the season often leaves us feeling overwhelmed.  In an article for Focus on the family, Sandra Walker-Mastin gives us 4 simple ways to "Be ready' for Christmas chaos.
Be...scheduled
as you fill your December calendar, take a careful look at your commitments and leave room for down time and time to enjoy being at home.
Be...structured
maintain as much of a regular routine (for you and your kiddos) for bedtimes and mealtimes as possible during this busy time.
Be...organized
plan ahead whenever possible, but most of all plan to be flexible
Be...intentional
making practical plans can help reduce stress but, more importantly, keep your family’s main focus celebrating our Savior, Jesus Christ.

I know it’s hard to believe, but Advent is around the corner! November 28th is the first Sunday in Advent and our annual family Christmas celebration is WEDNESDAY, December 1 from 5:30-7:30PM.

Christmas carols, advent wreaths, a craft, photobooth, MentorKids gifts, and a food truck for dinner! Mark your calendar to join us and watch for more details and sign ups soon.
