A New Heart for the Valley Week 5, Day 3

A SINGLE HEART
“In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.” This quote comes from Rupert Meldenius, a German Lutheran theologian, in a tract he wrote in 1627. Living during the 30 Years War, and reflecting on its partly religious roots, he penned a summary of NT teachings on the subject, which was adopted by the Puritan Richard Baxter and many others in our Reformed Tradition.
Unity is a gift and a task. It comes with the gift of a single spirit, a single baptism, a single faith, and a single Lord, as we are told in Ephesians 4. But it requires humility and patience and gentleness and “every effort.”
Have you ever experienced unity as a gift?
How hard have you had to work for it in your family and community?
