All You Need is Love Daily Devotional -10

1 CORINTHIANS 13:2b| 2band understand all mysteries...

JOB 38:4-7 | 4Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?

When I was young I was naïve about human understanding.      Growing up as the son of a professor, within the faculty of a         university, I imagined that human knowledge grew steadily and life was steadily becoming less mysterious. After all, we know so much more in every field of science, than we did 20 or 30 or 50 years ago. Was not the campus filled with experts brimming with knowledge in every field?

And yet I was working from a false framework. Understanding has grown, decidedly so. But so has mystery. The more we know about the universe the more mysterious it becomes! Black holes, quarks, dark matter—things become more counter-intuitive and surprising as physics develop. Paul is speaking tongue and cheek when he talks of “understanding all mysteries.” We live enveloped in mystery and this makes the God we worship even more wonderful.

Read the passage from Job and thank God for the mystery of life.

Reflect on the willingness of the Creator to become a person.
