All You Need is Love Daily Devotional -13

MATTHEW 7:21-23 | 21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.’
Deeds of power are inherently ambiguous. This passage reminds us that spectacular feats and miracles can come from genuine faith, but also can be fundamentally false. Evil can masquerade as good, and deeds of power can be done unlovingly. Even healings could be motivated by a desire to impress more than help. Enhancing the brand, building the reputation, fostering the perception of spiritual exceptionalism—these goals cannot fit with the will of God that we be humble servants.
We must long and pray for miracles, but only those that advance God’s purpose, enhance His name, and display His love.
Do you use your power lovingly?
