1 CORINTHIANS13:3 | 3 If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Imagine you have been blessed by a parent who has showered you with love and gifts from your birth onwards, teaching and nurturing you throughout your life. He or she has made sacrifices in order to support you in your development and activities. When this parent grows old or has a need you rush to help, personally and financially. What motivated you? Love and gratitude! Helping him, or her, is not a grim duty but a chance to express your genuine commitment to their well being and deep thankfulness for their help and care. In helping, your relationship grows even closer.
It is that way with our heavenly Father, the giver of every good and perfect gift, who has sacrificed much for our well-being, and provided for our care and development. When He asks us to help Him help others, we do so out of gratitude, excited to give back to the One who has blessed us. Then we gain the joy of partnering with the God we love, who has first loved us. We gain everything.
What have you gained in your acts of generosity?
