ASH WEDNESDAY

GOOD NEWS—

YOU ARE LOST!”

WEDNESDAY–MARCH 1, 2017

LUKE 15:1-7, 11-32

Jesus insisted, in His preaching, that human beings are “lost.” Repent, He said, using a term whose literal sense means to stop going where you are heading and move in a new direction.

It sounds harsh to describe a person or a group as lost, as if nothing in their lives is heading towards goodness and holiness. What does this term really describe?

In the story of the “lost sheep” in Luke 15, and the story of the two lost sons, we get a narrative explanation. We are lost when we have moved away from our Shepherd, left the Father’s house or values. It is the independence, the self-sufficiency and the consequently selfish and distorted life that constitutes lostness. Notice how eager in these stories our God is to seek and help and forgive the one who has wandered away.

Name a sign of lostness in your life.

Name an example of lostness in our world.

FAMILY TIME:

When was the last time you were lost?

How did it feel to be found?

Describe how the prodigal son felt when his dad threw him a party.
