Belong & Become, Week 2, Day 12

JOHN 14:18 | 18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.
There are no orphans in God’s kingdom. Jesus promises he will “come to” his disciples. He fulfilled this promise bodily through his resurrection. He will fulfill it finally by his return at the second coming. In between, however, he does go through his spirit. Unlike religious traditions that have a vague and numinous spiritual element, Christianity has a personal and concrete spirituality.
The spirit we have is Jesus’ spirit. The Lord we partner with now is the same one born of a virgin, who grew up in Nazareth and taught by the Sea of Galilee and in the Jerusalem temple. The Lord of my heart today is the historical Jesus, a concrete figure with specific teaching and view points. No one can separate the current “work of the Spirit” from the historical Jesus without running into heresy, subjectivity, cultural confusion, and ruin.
How concrete is your faith?
How scripture connected?
