GENESIS 1:28 | 28 God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
Marriage is intended to be anything but ordinary. Think for a moment of the extraordinary tasks assigned to Adam and Eve, and by implication, to every other couple. There is a grandeur to the responsibility they are given and to the scale of their work. They are to tend and care for the earth. They are to exercise intelligent authority over all other forms of life. This word “dominion” has many shades of meaning from “explore” to “subdue.”
Their shared work is crucial to the general flourishing of the entire creation. They have immense responsibilities and are trusted by God to discover and develop ways to enhance the beauty, order, and fruitfulness of the natural world, in all its awe and splendor. Men and women are made for shared and productive work with worldwide impact!
