Stress Test Devotional April 20

ROMANS 8:14-17 |14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs: heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if we in fact suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
God’s family is not built on biological relationships, cultural affinities, social connections, or racial likeness. It is constituted by shared faith, common mission, explicit covenantal commitment, mysterious connection through the Spirit, and a common destiny. God’s kingdom family is different from regular families but linked to and dependent on them. It is different because it has living but invisible members, the communion of saints. It is different because it is not limited by time, it is a forever family.
Yet despite these differences, God’s kingdom family depends to a significant extent on regular families. The church is meant to partner with families in the nature of kingdom disciples.
Pray for the family ministries of VPC.
Pray for families you know who have not been able or willing to embrace their spiritual tasks.
