DEUTERONOMY 6:2 | 2 so that you and your children and your children’s children may fear the Lord your God...
The fear of the Lord referred to here is not abject terror. It is not craven weakness before superior strength. Instead, it is a recognition of the order of reality, an acknowledgement that creatures rightly give to their creator. The fear of the Lord is a healthy respect, a deep appreciation, a considered understanding of the divine character and an immediate apprehension of His holy majesty.
The fear of the Lord drives both worship and obedience, the need to honor in word and deed, the One who is the source of beauty, truth, love, and life. In this passage, it is clear that the purpose of the law is to deepen human relationships with God, a relationship that must start and continue with a deep sense of the divine difference.
Do you have a fear of the Lord?
