HEBREWS 12:1b | 1blet us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
What connects us to the cheering witnesses? We are all part of the same historical movement planned from the moment of creation, displayed in the saga of the nation of Israel, culminating in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and continuing in the movement called the church. It is also a trans-historical movement—because Jesus has introduced a new indestructible form of life into the world, revealing that God is the God of the living and not the dead. We are connected to the cheering crowd because we share that new life with them.
We are connected by grace—the way God includes us in His story of redemption despite our flaws and failings. And by gratitude, for all who have played a role in the opportunities we have been given to grow and serve and witness.
