Body Building Daily Devotional - 3

EXODUS 3:7-10 | Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. The cry of the Israelites has now come to me; I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them. 10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

The original faith community was formed in absolute dependence on God. It was not created by a scheme or generated by a social theory. It was not the by-product of a visionary leader or a group of advanced thinkers or revolutionaries. No.

It began with the dramatic decision of Yahweh to resist the unjust tyranny of Pharaoh and to choose a group of dependent and powerless slaves to be the community that would reveal His character.

The central human leader, Moses, is a reluctant prophet and ineffective speaker who acknowledges that the call to lead a revolutionary movement of liberation is beyond him. It is God that changes hearts and minds and the course of history. Moses sees a bush that burns, but contrary to the laws of chemistry and physics, is not consumed. He walks on holy ground and he meets the great I AM who cannot be pictured, or captured with a name or description. The original faith community is formed at this divine Lord’s invitation and is founded on His actions, from the plagues to the waters of the Red Sea.

Do you think of yourself as the architect of your own destiny?
