EPHESIANS 4:5 | 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
This is a key phrase within the ecumenical movement, which has many dimensions but a shared goal to see Christians of various traditions more closely connected and cooperative. It is taken to refer to three areas where Christians have differences: church order, church doctrine, and sacraments. Churches must handle the question of how to live in a way that makes Christ’s authority and lordship effective. Some do so hierarchically and others more democratically. They must have core beliefs and a shared faith. And they must also have a vision of worship practices. While recognizing differences, that create distinctive ways to follow Christ, we must also look for common ground and not miss considerable areas of agreement. There is a historically continuous and shared orthodoxy that is rich and valuable.
