Body Building Daily Devotional - 39

by David Joynt on October 20, 2021

EPHESIANS 4:14 | 14 We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming.

An important key to resolving differences is recognizing the right issues to contest. Some things are worth fighting over and others are not. This takes discernment. Central matters of the faith, key justice issues, and any matters that threaten the character of a community or the welfare of a person are worth disagreeing about! How to best invest precious resources and establish priorities also deserve a “good and fair fight” or serious and constructive debate.

When we fight about everything then we just become contentious. We miss the opportunity to learn and grow from disagreement and to make discoveries. Paul identified real issues the Ephesians needed to come to terms with so they could have a solid base of understanding and not be vulnerable to the faddish, the new, and the erroneous.

Are you good at this kind of discernment?
