JOHN 17:1-2 | 1After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come;
glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
One form of unity is implied in Jesus’ prayer, through the setting and the repeated ways He refers to His disciples gathered around Him. That form of unity is doxological. That if to say, it is a unity found and known in worship. Jesus includes and invites His disciples to pray with Him by simply beginning to pray. He prays pastorally, as we do in worship moments, on behalf of His gathered company of followers. It is remarkable, in itself, that He thinks of their future in the greatest crisis of His own life—interceding for their protection and oneness in the traumas to come.
Many wonderful kinds of unifying connection can happen when we gather for prayer and praise and teaching.
Do you feel connected to others in worship?
Which aspect of our worship most fosters this feeling for you?
