Body Building Daily Devotional - 46

by David Joynt on October 27, 2021

JOHN 15:5 | I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

Another sort of unity is hidden in these verses too. It is convivial or social unity. Jesus explicitly tells His disciples, at an earlier point in the final discourses, that He “no longer calls them servants, but friends.”

When two people share a deep appreciation of a mutual friend, they are already connected in one sense. When two people both share a deep friendship with Jesus then they have much common ground and they share the gift of His Spirit, which is directing and shaping their lives. It can be hard to enter a new church, or even a new group within a church, until you realize you have the greatest friend ever in common.

Who are your closest friends?

What makes them close?
