Broken and the Blessed Week 4, Day 5

DAY 26
Individual repentance led to collective repentance. The “we” follows the “I”. Josiah had all the priests, all the leaders, and all the people listen to the words of the book of the law. He led them in a set of confessional acts. He destroyed the shrines and cultic practices of the false gods his people had been following.
Corporate confession and repentance is key for the church. We need the mutual accountability, mutual honesty, and fresh spiritual power that can only come when we humble ourselves before God. Examples of both holiness and unholiness can inspire our humility, once we recognize that we are more than a collection of individuals pursuing personal growth, but are instead a body that fails, confesses, grows and serves together.
The willingness of the church to admit its own brokenness is vital to its spiritual strength. Do you agree?
