Celebrate! May 8, 2025 Devotional

1 CORINTHIANS 2:9 |  9 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him”—

The joy of heaven will be magnificent! It will be deeper by far than our moments of happiness now. We are happy when we figure out an answer. Imagine when we know all the answers to all our questions. We are happy when connected with someone. Imagine if there were no barriers to communication or to love. We are happy when we have moments of peace. Imagine if there were no internal conflicts, no self-doubt or anxiety or shame, and there were no external divisions or wars or fights. We are happy when we feel healthy. Imagine if we were immune to age and disease, our bodies always strong, our sight clear, our minds focused and attentive. We feel happy when we see God at work and sense His presence. Imagine seeing Him, face to face, and being filled to the brim with His glory.

 

Do you see your life as a journey toward heaven's joy?

 

 

Gracious God,

Keep the vision of heaven before me to bring hope on hard days. No eye has seen or heard what You have prepared for those who love You! Amen.

David Joynt

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
