Christmas at the Movies: Week 4, Day 6
by David Joynt on December 29, 2017
Gold. Frankincense. Myrrh. The astronomers who came from the
east, who had seen a star at its rising, interpreted this cosmic
phenomena as a sign of a royal birth. They came with gifts for a
future King, expensive and impressive, ready to visit a royal
palace and meet a regal court. Instead, they are directed to a
stable behind a rude inn and find a peasant couple. Their gifts
must have seemed out of place, strange and ill-suited for the
needs of this little family far from home. But these gifts changed
the course of history. For the program of Herod forced the poor
couple to flee to Egypt and these gifts helped them to survive.
Small, light, and convertible into currency and goods, they were
the resources that kept the child King alive and safe from his
 pursuers.
Gifts given multiply in unexpected ways. They have knock on
and spillover effects, they open new possibilities.
Have you ever had to change your expectations like the wise
 men?
What gifts have you given that have had unexpected effects?
When have you seen generosity multiply impact?
