Christmas Character December 12 Devo

by David Joynt on December 12, 2022

LUKE 1:46-49, 54-55 | 46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked with favor on the lowly state of his servant. Surely from now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.54He has come to the aid of his child Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

A second and critical act of obedience by Mary is revealed in the Magnificat, her famous prophetic song. While her early pregnancy has made her an object of social shame, she has come to believe her child will become God’s agent of renewal. So, Mary begins to center her thoughts on this new reality. She envisions not future shame but future acclaim: “All generations will call me blessed.” She sees her child lifting up the poor and fulfilling the promises made to her ancestors.

How central is Jesus to your view of your life?

How central is He is your view of history?

 Gracious God,

Grant me a vision that makes You central, in my life and in the story of this world. Shape my worldview with Your gospel.
