Christmas Playlist Devotional 17

by David Joynt on December 14, 2021

Matthew 2:9 | 9 When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was.

Another sign that the wise men are acting under the influence of God’s grace is their reaction to the holy family and their abject
circumstances. They know that Kings are born to Kings and their births occur in palaces. They are led to a stable at the back of an inn and have an encounter with a peasant carpenter and his young wife. There are no local figures of import, the religious scholars who awaited the prophecy about Bethlehem are not in attendance, and no one else seems to be paying any attention to the event. Yet the wise men are open to an unlikely possibility, a king born without fanfare or acknowledgement. Reality is often surprising.

Our God is a God of surprises!

Can you think of other examples?
