Divine Dining April 5, 2026 Easter Sunday Devotional

LUKE 24:1-7 | 1But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body. 4 While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. 5 The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen. 6 Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to the hands of sinners and be crucified and on the third day rise again.”
The events of Holy Week shocked the followers of Jesus, who saw their leader and inspiration, their friend and Messiah, condemned, humiliated, and crucified. But the greater shock, still reverberating today, was His return from the dead. The surprise gave way to conviction; their dead leader had become the Living Lord, the King of a realm in which death and tragedy and injustice would be overcome.
A small, beleaguered group of men and women, numbering120 even after Jesus’ amazing Resurrection, became the core of a movement that would span the globe, touching every part of human culture, and giving purpose and hope to billions of human souls.
For some, Easter is another religious rite, a dimly understood traditional celebration. For those who know and follow the Living Lord, it is the key to the scriptures and to history, the center of their lives, and the beginning of God’s renewal of all living things.
What is Easter for you? Why do you think so many still look for the living among the dead?
Gracious God,
May Your Resurrection be for me an article of faith and a daily experience. Meet me in the ordinary moments of my days, in the relationships I treasure, in the secret recesses of my heart.
Amen.
