Divine Dining February 22, 2026 Devotional

LUKE 5:27 | 27 After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax-collection station, and he said to him, “Follow me.”

 

There are places which we consider sacred. Natural wonders and architectural genius can provide a sense of God’s goodness and glory. Soon our beautiful chapel, with its remarkable stained glass, will once again be a space that moves us to prayer and praise.

 

But I am glad Jesus operated outside of the synagogue, the Temple, and even beyond the glittering seashore and lofty mountain. I am glad he met Levi in the workplace, in the grubby daily grind of rules and regulations, taxes and figures. Our Lord is just as present in our offices as our sanctuaries, and just as eager to call us as He was to call Levi.

 

Do you meet Him at work?

 

 

Gracious God,

Help me to see my workplace as a sacred space, a kingdom arena, where You are present and active.

Amen.

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
