Divine Dining March 11, 2026 Devotional

LUKE 10:40a | 40a But Martha was distracted by her many tasks,

We live in a world of incredible distraction. Ads pop up in the mesmerizing experiences of digital obsession. There are notifications, alerts, emails, and texts. We can be distracted by the urgency of world events, the possibilities of the market, the fate of the latest match, game, or sporting event. The hum of politics never stops, the cycle runs 24/7. We can be entertained anywhere, we can communicate anywhere, so we can be distracted anywhere, and it can seem there is nowhere for contemplation or quiet or repose.

In addition there are many good things to do, many responsibilities to carry and tasks to accomplish. Martha, we are told was distracted “by her many tasks”, probably connected with entertaining Jesus and His disciples.

What are your sources of distraction?

Gracious God,

I am infected by noise and distracted by many things. My responsibilities are a gift that can feel like a burden. Grant me the peace that comes with clear purpose and grows in quiet contemplation.

Amen.
