Divine Dining March 18, 2026 Devotional

LUKE 11:44 | 44 Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves on which people unknowingly walk.

NUMBERS 19:16 | 16 Whoever in the open field touches one who has been killed by a sword or who has died naturally, or a human bone, or a grave shall be unclean seven days.

In Numbers we read that any contact with death, including a corpse, a human bone, or a grave, rendered the person as ceremonially unclean for a week, requiring cleansing and isolation. For this reason graves were marked with a high visibility white marking so that people could avoid ritual defilement and seven days of quarantine. Unmarked graves could lend to uncleanness unintentionally, simply by walking over one.

Jesus characterizes the Pharisees as spiritually dangerous for others. They seem outwardly pious, but by wrong instruction and false emphasis, they lead others astray, becoming bad examples whose imitation leads to inner corruption and moral confusion.

What do you want you life to exemplify?

Gracious God,

Help me to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Let my example say, "humility" and not "pride." I ask in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
