Divine Dining March 28, 2026 Devotional

LUKE 14:21-24 | 21 So the slave returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ 22 And the slave said, ‘Sir, what you ordered has been done, and there is still room.’ 23 Then the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner.’

The life and ministry of Jesus was the culmination of Israel’s history and experience with God. In Him the Torah is fulfilled and filled full with meaning. In Him the true King, the genuine servant Ruler       asserts true divine sovereignty. In Him the promises become real, the sacrificial system is completed by His self-offering, and the dreams of the prophets are realized. In His resurrection there is a redemption from sin and death, greater than that from slavery in Egypt. In His Spirit there is a new intimacy with God and in His mission a widening of God’s purpose to the whole world. All Israel’s life was an invitation to this moment, and tragically, many missed it, deliberately refusing to join the celebration. God’s answer in Christ was to invite the harried and least of these, the poor and the                beleaguered outsiders within Israel. And then to include the Gentiles too, from the roads and the lanes.

Nothing can be sadder than missing God’s invitation and doing so deliberately! Do you agree?

Gracious God,

May my life encourage others to hear Your invitation and to come to the celebration. Give me a heart for those living outside the circle of Your marvelous grace.

Amen.
