LUKE 7:44a | 44a Then turning toward the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman?
Seeing someone, really seeing them, can be the hardest thing. Part of this has to do with what is not readily visible to us. We cannot directly access someone's inner thoughts or feelings or the experiences of their past. This may all be hidden by a public posture that obscures what is underneath.
Moreover, we are conditioned to notice many things about people and also to be blind to others. Our needs and experiences and desires shape the way we look at people.
Simon could not really see the grateful penitent or feel her immense gratitude for new life, for a fresh beginning, for someone who did see her problems but also saw her as valuable and redeemable.
God sees our brokenness and also our potential to be changed and made glorious in Him.
How clearly do you see others?
Gracious God,
Clarify my vision of prejudice and selfishness. Help me see others as You do. I ask in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
