Divine Dining March 7, 2026 Devotional

LUKE 7:48-50 | 48 Then he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49 But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” 50 But he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

The unnamed woman honored Jesus publicly and He did the same for her. He noted her great love and by implication her courage in expressing it. The nameless sinner had more grasp of Jesus’ identity and power than the noted Pharisee.

Then Jesus shows His fearless and uncompromising side—He forgives her sins. This unique move immediately provokes reaction, for only God can forgive sins. He is arrogating to Himself an           exclusive divine prerogative, and He is doing it openly. Jesus has the power to change our past, present, and future through His mercy and forgiveness. Exercising this power in a public setting will          increase the pressure on His ministry, raise the charge of blasphemy, and anger those Jewish leaders who can’t fathom that God has entered the human story in a special way. But for Jesus, reassuring this woman is worth the cost.

Have you experienced Jesus’ power to change your past, present, and future?

Gracious God,

I have erred and strayed from your ways like a lost sheep. I have followed too much the devices and desires of my own heart and there is no health in me. Forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness, let me know the joy of thy salvation.

Amen.
