Divine Imperatives August 28 Devotional

MATTHEW 5:23 | 23 So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you.
Conscience is a precious gift. When I was nine, a new family moved next door and their son, who was five, had an unusual condition. He did not feel pain. This was very dangerous. He would take risks and damage his body, without any warning that he should halt his behavior. He was always bruised and bandaged.
Conscience alerts us to psychic and relational pain. It warns us when we have done or said or thought things that are damaging to others, to ourselves, or to our relationship with God. Jesus encourages us to pay attention and then respond, rather than to ignore those moments when our conscience prods us to seek forgiveness or repair a wounded relationship. Worship often opens our minds to God’s “conscience messages.”
Do you listen well to your conscience?
Gracious God,
Thank You for the inner voice that helps us see when our behavior contradicts Your will and ways. Speak to us today and show us how to pursue relationships that are strong and healthy.
Amen.
