Divine Imperatives October 3 Devotional

MATTHEW 6:4 | 4 so that your alms may be done in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

 

Human memory is fragile and temporary and ever changing. Current experience shifts what and how we recall our past moments. Age can weaken our ability to remember with clarity things from yesterday. When we pass away it would seem our memories cease altogether. Now, some things are best forgotten! But what about the good deeds and great memories that we could lose in whole or in part?

 

God has perfect recall for everyone of our good deeds, holy actions, and loving moments. Not one instance of courage or sacrifice is lost. No such deed of ours is ever unseen or forgotten.

 

How good is your spiritual memory?

 

 

Gracious God,

Thank You that our lives and our highlights matter to You! Give us the gift of holy memory.

Amen.

David Joynt

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
