MATTHEW 5:37b | 37b Let your word be ‘Yes, Yes’ or ‘No, No’;
As every two-year-old discovers, “no” is a powerful word. No sets boundaries. No protects priorities. No brings clarity and maintains values. No keeps the main things the main things. If we say yes to every opportunity, we will not do anything well. If we say yes to everyone who wants our agreement, we stand for nothing because we will stand for everything. Yes means something in relationships and covenants, only if no is sometimes spoken. Unless we can say no and mean it, we will be drawn into bad moments and practices.
Are you good at setting boundaries?
Gracious God,
Grant us discernment about when to say no. Don’t let the good be the enemy of the best. Help us set real boundaries that create freedom and protect our relationships.
