Dwell in the House of the Lord Volume 1, Day 11

PSALM 23:4 | 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me
The life without lack is never dominated by fear or anxiety. Aging, death, disease, or loss of possessions, cannot disturb our peace or threaten our equanimity. The presence of God in our dark valleys, when evil is real and active, is so strong that we do not panic.
American society faces an historical irony. We are, in general, better fed and safer than any previous human society, yet we know increasing levels of fear and anxiety, often to a paralyzing degree. Previous societies, in earlier eras, lived shorter and more brutal lives, struggling for survival and facing insecurities related to food and health and safety. Yet to read their literature is to realize that depression and fear did not dominate their lives to the degree it can do so today.
What signs of fear do you see around you?
Has God ever corralled you with his staff or defended you with his rod?
