Dwell in the House of the Lord Volume 2, Day 52
by David Joynt on July 28, 2020
Psalm 23:6b | 6b and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:19 | 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?
PSALM 84:5 | 5 Happy are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
We sometimes think of our sanctuaries and chapels as houses of the Lord, the way the Israelites thought of their temple. Beautiful worship spaces greatly enhance our experiences, for we are sensual creatures and our hearts link into our eyes and ears and hands. But one of the deepest ways the New Testament shifts the sensibility of the Old Testament is this: the House of the Lord lives in us! We are the temples for the Holy Spirit, each one of us more marvelous than the great Temple in Jerusalem, the Cathedral in Chartres, or St. Paul’s.
What is the most beautiful cathedral or church you’ve ever seen?
Remember today you are the temple where God dwells.
