Each 1 Reach 1 February 10 Devotional

by David Joynt on February 10, 2023

PSALM 91:1-6, 11-12 | 1You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the hunter and from the deadly pestilence; he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and defense. You will not fear the terror of the night or the arrow that flies by day or the pestilence that stalks in darkness or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12 On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.

Ultimately, life without God is life within the shadow of death. Elements of loss and tragedy reinforce the seeming finality of that inevitable ending. Every story stops, every initiative ends, every lifespan concludes, in the same dark way. The faithless individual must find meaning despite this reality, sometimes in brave and futile acceptance, sometimes in willful denial.

Only a new kind of unending life, visible and shareable in the resurrection, can counter this reality.

Where do you see signs of brave acceptance or willful denial in our culture?

Gracious God,

Let me live and act and speak in the light of Your resurrection. Don’t let age or time or trouble take away my confidence that this life is a prelude to a greater story.

Amen.
