Each 1 Reach 1 February 11 Devotional

by David Joynt on February 11, 2023

JOHN 4:28-29, 39-42 | 28 Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people, 29 “Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah, can he?”

39 Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I have ever done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.”

For all those reasons, the best gift anyone can give or receive is faith. We think of societies and civilizations as permanent and people as transitory, but God’s intention is that you and I last forever.

The special treasures we can build up in heaven are the people whose lives we have touched who will live with God forever. Can you imagine the joy of seeing people you encouraged in heaven? Now complete and whole, now restored and made new, now sanctified and glorified, their eyes shine with gratitude as they greet you. One by one, they explain how your words and deeds helped them to know and follow the one who is the way, the truth and the life.

Our actions on earth make treasures in heaven.

Think of someone you want to get to know more deeply, someone who needs to know Jesus.

Pray for them and ask God to help you share your faith story. If they are not church connected, invite them to VPC.

Gracious God,

Help us to build a lasting legacy in heaven. May we see and touch the people around us in ways that open hearts to Your love and grace.

Amen
