Each 1 Reach 1 January 19 Devotional

by David Joynt on January 19, 2023

1 PETER 3:15 | 15 but in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you.

My kindergarten substitute teacher was 85 years old and totally memorable. Mrs. Astricker was 5'0" with large eyes and a larger heart. She loved baseball and 5 year olds and would lead recess ball games where no one ever struck out. She pitched it where it could be hit and patiently went on until contact was made. We loved her! Watching her was a lesson in life and evangelism—pitch it where it can be hit. Knowing the truths of the faith is one thing, but making them understandable and accessible is another.

Do you “pitch it” where it is hittable?

Do you have a word for the hope that is in you?

Gracious God,

Your Son acknowledged His teaching and truth to His audience. He spoke in ways they understood, using language and images drawn from their regular experiences of farming, fishing, dining, etc. We also want that gift of connection.
