Each 1 Reach 1 January 24 Devotional

by David Joynt on January 24, 2023

ACTS 8:34-39 | 34 The eunuch asked Philip, “About whom, may I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip began to speak, and
starting with this scripture he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus.
36 As they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized?” 38 He commanded the chariot to stop, and both of them, Philip and the eunuch, went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; the eunuch saw him no more and went on his way rejoicing.

The Ethiopian is baptized and becomes a believer. He is not mentioned again in Acts or the rest of the New Testament. But early church tradition describes him as the first person to carry the gospel to Africa. St. Irenaeus of Lyons in his book, Against Heresies, written in 180 AD, names him as Simeon Bachos the Eunuch and tells of his preaching and outreach.  The African continent now has more Christians than any other, and some African countries are sending missionaries back to the US in order to grow the faith!

Has anyone that you shared faith with gone on to share it with    others?

Does the secondary impact of your life excite you?

 Gracious God,

Each moment I have with someone is sacred. I don’t want to forget that when someone is touched or changed they can teach and change
others. Let me be excited about encounters and friendships.

Amen.
