1 CORINTHIANS 1:25 | 25 For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.
Human strength is displayed in the death of Jesus. There is a certain strength in the official judgments, the first by the Sanhedrin that Jesus was a blaspheming pretender. There is a strength in the opinions of a crowd, like the one that shouted “crucify,” preferring a nationalist rebel, Barabbas, to a teacher and healer, Jesus. There is strength in the administrative Roman state, embodied by Pilate, that makes justice and truth secondary to expediency.
But the weakness of Jesus was triumphant. He submitted to Jewish and Roman authorities, though their charges and verdicts were unjust. He suffered and died, horribly and publicly. But His Resurrection was a vindication and His continuing presence a power that has not only outlasted the Roman Empire but became a global reality.
History has vindicated Paul’s statement. Do you agree?
Gracious God,
How marvelous and unexpected, how shocking and wonderful, is Your plan to save and redeem. Hallelujah! May we live out its power and truth.
Amen.
