Everlasting November 14, 2025 Devotional

by David Joynt on November 14, 2025

JOHN 13:12-16 | 12 After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, 'Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. 14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. 16Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them.'

Yesterday we focused on the servant/master relationship at the heart of discipleship. Genuine disciples can forsake their own desires out of obedience to Christ. Today we see the radical implications of this, because when we do we become servants of a Master who is Himself a servant.

That is to say we must become not only servants to Him, but servants to other people around us. We are not “greater” than He is, so we must model His foot washing attitude and behavior, become willing to surrender status and dignity to deal with others’ needs.

Are you a true servant of the Servant?

Gracious God,

Give me a servant’s heart. Help me see opportunities to care for and bless those whose lives are dirty or troubled. May I be a servant of the Servant.

Amen.
