Everlasting November 18, 2025 Devotional

MATTHEW 19:29-30 | 29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. 30But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.

MATTHEW 10:40-42 | 40Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous, 42and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.

There are rewards for kingdom investment. Blessing a “little one,” which here means anyone who follows and serves Jesus, is a sure-fire rate to heavenly reward. Sacrifices, like those enumerated in Matthew 19, will also be rewarded. They may be familial sacrifices, as when the disciples left homes and relatives to follow Jesus, or they may be professional sacrifices (leaving fields or fishing boats). Interestingly, the reward is disproportionate to the sacrifice! Good investments are judged by their yield—what profit do they render? Here, the profit is 100 times what was invested and also connects to the invaluable gift of eternal life.

Do you consider sacrifice a form of investment?

Gracious God,

Loosen my grip on possessions and replace my sense of ownership with a sense of stewardship. Help me make sacrifices and see them as investments.

Amen.
