1 TIMOTHY 6:17-19 | 17As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, 19thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.
These verses are a useful summary of a number of this week’s themes. These include the uncertainty of purely temporal investment and the impact that generosity can have when married to God’s purposes and power. We also learn the unfading and permanent quality of heavenly treasure is not only a future blessing but it alters our current experience. Generosity is a key part of the deepest, truest form of life right now. Immense satisfaction and deep joy awaits those whose gifts change the lives of others, build the kingdom, and align with God’s intentions. They not only anticipate the blessings of heaven, they begin to taste them.
What strikes you in these verses?
Gracious God,
Help me live the deep and true life, the one that resonates with Your purpose, reflects Your values, honors Your goals, and reveals Your love. Amen.
