EPHESIANS 2:19 | 19 So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God,
The connections we form in Christ not only overcome previous differences and divisions, but they forge a new, shared identity. We become citizens with the saints of a new kingdom. This kingdom exists wherever and whatever someone gives their allegiance to the new King, the Resurrected and reigning Jesus. Notice this new affiliation and identity is shared across time and space, with “the saints.” For Paul, it was not just a few particularly holy followers who were recognized as saints, but all true believers, past and present. Citizenship in a large nation can feel impersonal, a matter of passports and legal status. But we are also “members of the household of God.” This familial language suggests intimate and loving relationships with God and each other.
Do you think of yourself as part of a real kingdom? Do you feel like you are part of the divine family?
Gracious God,
Help me to see Your kingdom around me and to sense Your rule of love and truth in Your people. Let me feel the bonds and beauty of Your family.
Amen.
