Everlasting November 9, 2025 Devotional

MARK 1:16-18 | 16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” 18And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

This week we study sacrifice through the lens of the first disciples. To sacrifice is to give something up for a greater purpose. When Jesus called Simon (Peter) and his brother Andrew, they “left their nets” and followed Him. This little phrase describes a career change. A profession these two knew and were successful in, had to be left behind. They embraced a chance to learn from and to help Jesus in a new ministry endeavor. It was one of the most unique job opportunities in history—but it meant leaving everything they knew  and the security of familiar work and routines.

We can, of course, follow Jesus without changing careers—almost any job can have spiritual impact if done in partnership with Him. We can invest, create, teach, build, grow, heal, counsel, or lead for His glory.

Are you partnering with Him in your work?

Gracious God,

Help me discover how to integrate my work and faith. Help me say, “Thank God it is Monday!”

Amen.
